2010 Halloween Parade

Ghosts, Goblins, & Local Dignitaries Walk A Spooky Walk

10-29-10--On Friday, October 29th, Zilwaukee International Studies School (ZISS) revived a long-standing tradition of the annual Halloween Parade, after a few years leave, thanks to new principal Tina Munoz. All grades, Pre-K through 8th, participated, as did parents, faculty and staff, donning their scary costumes and fanciful threads, marching out of the school, and around the community. Local dignitaries also attended, including State Senator Roger Kahn, Zilwaukee Mayor Gene Jolin, Superintendent Dr. & Mrs. Carlton Jenkins, School Board member Beverly Yanca, not to mention that big red bird, the SVSU Cardinals mascot.

Community spectators lined the streets to watch this beloved tradition, remembering a time when they, too, were participants in this scary, merry march. Local organizations contributed loads of goodies as the spooky travelers sauntered past, including the City of Zilwaukee, which gave out all of 300 caramel apples.

The kids had a ball, and returned to school full of goodies, excitement, and glee, ever more charged for the beckoning promise of trick-or-treating and Halloween night.
