Get Wet & Get Air!
at Saginaw's New Splash & Skate Parks!
On August 26, 2010, the City of Saginaw celebrated its Grand Opening of the Mershon-Whittier Splash Park, at Celebration Square, home of the former Andersen Water Park. Fanfare was heavy, with piped-in music; free hot dogs, pop and popcorn; activity booths; a free raffle for Saginaw Spirit and Great Lakes Loons tickets; and, of course the park's main features--the wet and wacky splash playland, and a special preview of the most awesome skate park! The splash park is especially suited for the younger kids, while the skate park--still under construction, and an impressive concrete work of art (word on the street has it that skilled craftsmen came all the way from California to finish the sculpted concrete!)--is geared to the older kids, and accommodates skates, skate boards, and bikes.
A special ceremony and dedication were held during the celebration to thank the many people and organizations that helped make it all happen, with many of the area's leading dignitaries present. The weather cooperated fully with lots of sunshine, and a nice breeze to boot!
